This year we saw a big change to homecoming.

“A majority high schools in the world, not just Wichita, they do their homecoming dances on Saturday. I always say it gives like our underclassmen, more prom like experience where they can use the whole day to get ready and, you know, go out to eat and do stuff that you know, the upper classmen do during like on the prom day,” assistant principal Jarron Ogles said.

 But why not Fridays? Why did it change?

“With football and the cheerleaders and the attendance and by the time they would get into the door we were already closing it and it was really just unfair to those doing extracurricular activities for us,” assistant principal Amy Baldwin said.

“It happened last year. we got the issue of too many kids not being able to really go to the dance from the start time to the end time because of football, band and any other sports that there was all going on Friday night,” Student Council sponsor Karen Burns said. 

The change from Friday to Saturday indeed made it easier for many people to attend.

“I’m in the marching band, so, but yeah, so it definitely has been like halfway,” Eunnise Chamriho (12) said.

“You have more time to prepare in the morning because you don’t have school that day, so you can actually have tie to do your hair, and everything else,” Vanessa Coleman (12) said.

For the foreseeable future homecoming will continue to be on Saturdays.
