Next year the bell schedule will look a little different. Starting 25-26 school year, lunch will be moved to later in the afternoon. Seminar will also be changing…again. The past four years have seen many changes to Seminar, moving from the morning, to the end of the day, then to the middle of the day and now back to the end.

The lunch change came in part to help accommodate students who are involved in the USD 259 Future Ready Center.

“So we have a number of students that are in the FRC,” principal Claudia Cooper said, “and the bus comes right before lunch, and so those students were not getting lunch. And so in order to kind of fix that problem, I had to move our lunch back.”

Many students we spoke to weren’t aware of all the changes or only knew about one aspect of the schedule change.

“I just heard about it, literally, in Seminar,” Aiden Stowell (11) said “I have no idea why they changed it that way. I feel like that’s a good way to accommodate [those students].”

This year Seminar was moved to the middle of the day in hopes of getting more students to go to their Seminar classes and raising attendance numbers. Moving Seminar to the end of the day could lead to students skipping Seminar altogether.

“So I don’t feel like it’s a, like, really necessary change. Like, I feel like we’re fine with how it is, but they’re moving Seminar to the end of the day. Yeah, I’m gonna just skip that class.” Hayden Moody (11) said.

However, with seminar at the end of the day students who have to leave at the end of the day students who have to leave for sports or have to leave during Seminar rather than during one of their other classes.

“So that way we can include assemblies and everything into that Seminar, into that that Schedule, and we don’t have to adjust the times like we normally do,” Cooper said. like on Wednesdays or on like tomorrow when we’re having a seminar or an assembly. “…Then we have to run an assembly schedule, so we don’t have to worry about that. Like, it’s just the schedule.”
