On Wednesday, Nov. 15, Student Government held its first town hall meeting since 2023.
“Town hall actually started two years ago with Andrew Le it was when I was sophomore class president and he was body president,” Student Body President Thien-Y Do (12) said. “He originally started it for that reason, to hear students out about their concerns because everyone has their complaints about school and whatnot.”
This meeting focused on issues the student body brought up for discussion, such as the new rule allowing freshmen and sophomores upstairs during lunch time.
“Town hall, it’s a great way for students to give their input,” Principal Claudia Cooper said. “I think it provides a means for a lot of people who feel unheard to voice their opinion and it gives a sort of level of professionalism to an otherwise unprofessional level of just overall group involvement.”
“I think that having students be involved and voicing their opinions about how the school is run, because it is a school for students, is probably one of the best things that could have probably ever happened to Southeast,” said Korban Lea (12), who attended the town hall meeting.
Principal Cooper was very proud to hear how the students are taking the initiative to improve the school.
“I love the process I love the idea of you know you know they do kind of a check in to see you know “Hey, I have this thought what do you think about it” and they’re kind of getting their thoughts together and then they’re putting together their argument and then we meet in town hall,” Cooper said.
If you wish to participate in the meetings, STUGO will hold a town hall meeting on the third Friday of each month.
