To prepare for the upcoming cold weather, agriculture pathway teachers Austin Andrews and Joanna Farmer paired up with their respective classes to build a barn for Jerry, the donkey.
“This year we had a big enough budget with both of my classes and farmers that we can actually go out and build a barn,” Andrews said.
This project had created a space for students to collaborate.
“I think it’s very nice to help other students understand how to do things when they don’t understand,” technology student Michael Jimenez (10) said.
“It has taught me to be more patient and actually work with my pears, and not to be so self-minded and basically just working with my peers its easier to work as a team instead of doing it all alone, things get done quicker,” technology student Markell Pete (11) said.
Not only did industrial technology students gain from this experience, but agriculture students as well.
“They are getting to learn some ag construction so that’s been fun for students and it will also give them more opportunities for them to work with animals and places to do that in,” Farmer said.
The barn will provide great shelter for Jerry and become a place for students to create memories.
“My hope is that when we’re done with it and it’s set in place,” Andrews said, ” and that everybody that had a hand in doing this can come out here and show their parents and be like hey I built that, that’s what I did.”
