The Pommies dance team brings great energy and school spirit to pep assemblies, however, in recent years there have been a great decline in members.
Typically, the Pommies have around 20 members on the team. Last year, there were only four. Pommies we spoke with credit this to a lack of promotion more than a lack of interest.
“Regardless if we have like 20 people or 4 people, we’ve always had fun with each other and we love each other, and I think the most important part of that is that we love what we are doing,” team captain Ariana Reza (12) said.
The new coaches and team captain believe that compassion and encouragement will be the key to success this year. The tryouts showed promising results for the season ahead.
“For the amount we have right now, I feel like they are really competitive and they are doing their best, and the team that I just saw right now I see so much potential,” recruit Hania Morales (12) said.
The dance team wants to help incoming members become more active in the school community.
“I have been wanting to become athletic, I’ve been wanting to get opportunities, but I couldn’t last year and I feel like this will lead on because I am going to dance, I am going to go into cheer, and with cheer you can get scholarships. I want to have a bright future and this will help,” another new recruit Malaya Mosley (10) said.
With new members and the support of Southeast, this season of Pommies is set to be one to watch.
