Powder Puff is an event that students have looked forward to for years. However, this year it’s been canceled, and many students have been asking why. Those involved said it was due to multiple factors.
“People have gotten hurt, and we just really didn’t have the attendance much lately,” STUGO sponsor Ryan Field said. Some junior and senior girls we spoke to said they thought it was a shame the underclassmen who had never experienced Power Puff would be missing out.
“I think it’s crazy like, my sophomore year, last year, I had like my sisters be in Powder Puff and then coming back and like, I can finally do it, and they take it away. I think it’s really sad,” Hayden Kisner (11) said.
However, others felt it wasn’t a big deal.
“Well, really, I did not care for it. The reason why maybe is because I don’t know, someone must have gotten too rough at the game and accidentally did something,” Nilaiah Hodge (12) said.
Field said that a new event has already been planned to replace it which he hopes is just as enjoyable for those involved.
“So, we actually created something called ‘Junior Senior Drive in Night.’ So it sounds like you go to a drive-in movie theater,” he said.
“I think a lot of people, they might not like it, but I think it’ll be a nice opportunity. Like a new opportunity,” Yie-Jye Tran (12) said.
Although Powder Puff was only for upperclassmen to participate in, underclassmen were able to watch. Since the movie night was limited to only juniors and seniors, underclassmen were completely uninvolved. However, Field and those involved in the planning were happy with the turnout.
While there are no plans currently to bring Powder Puff back, some of those we spoke to would like to see it return.
“I think if it were to come back,” Kisner said, “…a lot of people would definitely participate in it because it’s like, newer.”
