On April 12, about 85 volunteers came out to help plant seeds.
“I love coming out here, helping with the garden, helping plant trees, working with all the animals. I love being outside,” volunteer Jordan Bass (11) said.
“I kind of like doing things like this and I’m like somehow like enjoying it and I also like here for community service. And I kind of wanna’ try something new after school,” volunteer Liliana Roquen (9) said.
Planting seeds requires a lot of preparation. Luckily many students and members of the community helped out in the weeks beforehand.
“We’ve been collecting paper towel and toilet paper tubes from recycling a company in town as well as various people that have dropped them off. We’ve been gathering five-gallon buckets from Freddy’s and Chick fil A and a few from united paper. They’ve been donating buckets so that we can use those for planting,” agriculture teacher Joanna Farmer said.
Giving back to the environment in turns helps the community
“Once we get the seeds planted, the city is going to take them back to their greenhouses and grow them out. And then they’re either going to do some more plantings with us out in parks, or they are going to keep them out and tree free tree giveaways. (It) provides us some nice shade when we want to go to the park,” Farmer said.
