Vandalism in the bathrooms has been a problem for years. Students we spoke to say this year seems to be worse.
“I’ve seen a lot more of it this year than last year. … I feel like there might have been a spike and vandalism in the bathrooms,” Hayden Moody (10) said.
From a lack of cleanliness to broken soap dispensers to inappropriate words on the doors, there are a lot of concerns with bathrooms this year.
“I’ve seen a few cuss words engraved with some type of object into the doors. I’ve seen some of that. I’ve also seen some paint makers that have been taken and someone has written something appropriate on the walls,” Moody said.
The administration is aware of the concerns.
“I have noticed some vandalism in the bathrooms this year. There were a couple of soap dispensers that were knocked off the bathroom walls,” principal Claudia Cooper said.
There have been numerous challenges in the bathrooms that administration and security have had to deal with.
“For the longest I refuse to refill the soap dispensers that you noticed that there was a card outside the bathrooms and now has the hand sanitizer stations. And that was instead of locking the bathrooms, I just went ahead and ordered 10 set aside hand sanitizing stations, so that way we didn’t have to refill the soap,” Cooper said.
Principal Cooper encourages students to report any bathroom vandalism to admin or security.
“They see something that’s vandalizing your bathroom like that, say something to admin, security, a teacher, parent, anyone so that we can find that person and get that taken care of,” Cooper said. “Vandalism can be a challenge, but with the help of students like you, we can help eliminate vandalism.”
