Many juniors last year were upset after Powderpuff was canceled.
“I was pretty sad because I wanted to go against the seniors and I wish I had more experience for this year as my senior year,” player Charee Moore (12) said.
“I think not being able to do it two years in a row would have been a real bummer for the kids. Especially the seniors, not having the opportunity to do that all,” Powderpuff sponsor Jonathan Buster said.
Some changes are being made to encourage greater Powderpuff participation.
“I think that by putting the Powderpuff in assembly schedule is really going to drive interest for next year. We wanted to make sure that we had an audience and have the kids actually show up instead of just the few that come out for other sporting events and stuff like that. We wanted a huge attendance, so we decided to move it to the assembly day,” Powderpuff sponsor Karen Burns said.
Organizers are encouraging students to sign up to keep the tradition of powderpuff going.
“I would just say come out and watch it. See it for yourself see how much fun it is. It’s like I said earlier, it’s a traditional high school experience of being able to play powderpuff to be able to make those memories on the field. Being silly, being fun, you know, just come out and watch it and wait for your turn,” Buster said.
It will take continued student support to see Powderpuff continue on in the future.
